Canopy of a mature banyan tree

What education does that advice cannot.

Understanding your financial position — rather than merely acting on someone else's summary of it — is a different kind of capability. These programmes build that capability.

Back to Home

Six things that distinguish this school.

Built for Singapore

All content is grounded in Singapore law, CPF structures, and local regulatory practice. Not adapted from overseas templates.

Practitioners who teach

Each instructor works in their field. The estate course is taught by a Singapore-qualified estate planning lawyer, not a generalist educator.

No products, no commissions

Course fees are the school's only income. No financial products are sold during or after our programmes.

Small cohort sizes

Groups stay small. Discussion is richer, questions are answered fully, and the learning environment remains comfortable.

Tangible outputs

Each programme ends with a working document you keep and use — not just a completion certificate.

Unhurried pacing

Five to eight weeks per programme. The pace allows absorption, reflection, and real questions between sessions.

Instructors with direct professional standing.

Our three instructors are a financial planner, a portfolio practitioner, and an estate planning lawyer. Each has more than a decade of practice. The curriculum they teach reflects what they see in actual household situations — not hypothetical scenarios from a textbook.

  • Singapore-qualified practitioners in each discipline
  • Current professional knowledge, reviewed annually
  • Direct experience with the situations participants face

Working materials, not slides.

Each course provides a structured workbook, reading list, and a final reference document. These are designed to be used — to be written in, stored, and returned to. The materials are written specifically for Singapore, drawing on current CPF board publications, MAS guidelines, and Singapore estate practice.

  • Structured workbooks with exercises
  • Reading lists drawn from Singapore sources
  • Final household reference document, ready to keep

A considerate environment for serious questions.

Financial questions that involve one's own household are personal. The small cohort format, the in-person setting, and the clear separation from product sales create an environment where participants can ask those questions plainly.

  • Small groups — typically eight to twelve participants
  • In-person sessions at central Singapore location
  • No sales environment — education only

What participants leave with.

Completing a Pokok Capital programme means holding a working understanding of a specific subject — household finances, investment fundamentals, or estate documentation — alongside a structured document produced during the course. The S$315–S$605 fee is a one-time cost for durable knowledge and usable materials.

  • Structured understanding of a specific financial domain
  • Working document for household records
  • Reduced reliance on intermediaries for basic decisions

Education versus the alternatives.

There are many ways to learn about personal finance. Here is how structured education compares with common alternatives.

A household documentation folder

The Roots programme produces a complete household documentation folder — wills, CPF nominations, LPA registration, insurance summaries, and beneficiary details — in a format readable by family members. This is an output few financial education providers offer anywhere in Singapore.

Estate planning taught by a practising lawyer

The estate documentation course is not taught by a financial planner with general legal knowledge. It is taught by a Singapore-called estate lawyer who works in this area every working day. The specificity that produces makes a material difference to the content.

Separate from the advisory industry

Most financial education in Singapore is provided by organisations that also sell products. Pokok Capital has no such arrangement. This is not a minor operational distinction — it determines what can and cannot be said in the classroom.

Designed for mid-life, not all ages

The courses assume participants are in their forties or beyond. The examples, concerns, and structures addressed are those that apply in that stage — CPF drawdown planning, HDB inheritance, later-life portfolio allocation. Not generic personal finance for a twenty-five-year-old.

A quiet record.
